Stick Joins Toy Hall of Fame

November 11, 2008 by John · Leave a Comment

The wooden stick is the latest toy to be inducted into the New York based National Toy Hall of Fame

A small selection of wooden sticks, including a pistol shaped stick join such classic toys as the bicycle, the yo-yo, the teddy bear and Monopoly. The stick was one of three items nominated for induction by around 35,000 Americans. The other two toys were the baby doll and the skateboard.

I’m not sure I agree with the decision. Isn’t a stick an object that is used as a toy rather than being an actual toy? If a stick is included then how about a saucepan and wooden spoon - otherwise known, as many parents will know, as a drum!

Evel Knievel Toy Set

When I was still in short pants a friend had this Evel Knievel toy stunt set. I seem to remember that the motorbike went like a rocket! We had hours of fun winding Evel up and making him jump over the accompanying ramps and by also making our own ramps out of piles of hardback books and boxes.

Well, the great news is that this Seventies toy is available again - it’d make a great retro present for boys of all ages! Visit Hawkin Bazaar today and treat someone to this totally fab toy.

Toys With Magnets Safety Warning

March 3, 2008 by John · Leave a Comment

Under new rules approved by the European Commission last week, toys containing magnets will have to carry compulsory safety warnings.

This is as a result of the product recalls of 2007 and including such popular toys as Polly Pocket, Barbie, Batman and Doggy Day Care. Small magnets used in these toy sets could fall out and then be swallowed by young children. Mattel did undergo a full product recall last year to address the problem (source) with their own product ranges.
