Happy Birthday Paddington
October 13, 2008 by John · Leave a Comment
Today Google UK is celebrating Paddington Bear’s 50th birthday with a custom logo (pictured).
A firm favourite with children and grown-ups alike, Paddington is well known for his good intentioned disasters and his liking for marmalade sandwiches …kept under his hat for safe keeping of course! More recently we’ve seen Paddington on the TV in adverts for marmite (personally, I hate it!).
If you’d like to introduce a child (or grown-up) to Paddington Bear then amazon stock a wide range of his books and if you’re looking for the bear himself then visit John Lewis.

Worzel Gummidge DVD
September 11, 2008 by John · Leave a Comment

The Telegraph reports that Worzel Gummidge, the scarecrow character made famous by the late Jon Pertwee is to return to our TV screens. The show is possibly not suitable for the very youngest of children although it is U certificate rated.
Worzel, Crowman and Aunt Sally made this a great series and you might like to know that the original series are available on DVD at amazon.
And along similar lines, Rentaghost is also set for a comeback too. Oh dear, I can’t say that I was keen on this show as a child!
Stick Man By Julia Donaldson
September 10, 2008 by John · Leave a Comment
We’re big fans of The Gruffalo, The Smartest Giant In Town and other stories by award winning Julia Donaldson. Our children really enjoyeded listening to us read the stories and now they enjoy reading them themselves. Not only are the stories excellently written, the drawings by Axel Scheffler are superb. The latest title by this hit duo of author and illustrator is Stick Man…
Stick Man lives in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three. But it’s dangerous being a Stick Man. A dog wants to play with him, a swan builds her nest with him. He even ends up on a fire! Join Stick Man on his troublesome journey back to the family tree.
The book is a must-have for all Gruffalo and Smartest Giant fans and would make an ideal Christmas present. Order your copy from amazon today!

Cluedo – A Christmas Classic
August 15, 2008 by John · Leave a Comment

Cluedo is a classic board game and a perennial Christmas classic, perhaps only second to the obvious number one, Monopoly.
I read today in The Telegraph that Cluedo has had a major makeover to bring it into the 21st century. So out go Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum and Reverend Green and in come Jack Mustard, Victor Plum and Jacob Fixer.
Jack Mustard for example, is an ex celebrity footballer whose age has finally caught up with him. He’s now a sports pundit relying on his failing good looks and popularity.
The murder victim is now an un-named multi-millionaire media mogul – so Dr Black is no more. And the murder victim now gets done-in by a baseball bat or a dumbell in the spa!
The company now behind the game Hasbro, have introduced a few other tweaks in their attempt to revamp the game as they believe Cluedo was too stuffy for todays game players. The game was devised by Anthony Pratt, a Birmingham solicitors clerk back in 1944.
I’d expect the classic version of the game to still be available along with the new version which is due for release this Christmas. You’ll find Cluedo, Monopoly and many more board games here in Amazon.
